Bea Nettles @ SCAP: March 14–18, 2011
Small Craft Advisory Press (SCAP) is honored to announce Bea Nettles, a pioneer in photographic techniques and book arts, as its first visiting artist of Spring 2011.
Nettles’ work examines issues of family relationships, woven together with mythology and natural history in a dream-like nature. Since 1970, Nettles’ impact has been felt internationally through an extensive exhibition record and the publication of her own books. She has instructed photography and artists’ books at Rochester Institute of Technology, Tyler School of Art, and the University of Illinois where she is currently Professor Emerita.
During her residency at SCAP, Nettles will work on a collaborative book with Florida artists Robert Fichter and Denise Bookwalter. This interactive letterpress book, entitled Oranges, will celebrate Florida’s own through each artist’s unique vision.
Nettles will give an artist talk on March 16, 2011 at 4:00pm in the Strozier Library Scholars Commons at FSU. SCAP also invites the public to meet Bea, experience the project first hand, and learn more about the press at an open house on March 18, 2011 from 10:00am-12:00pm at SCAP.
